Can't blame the second one on Kincaid. The forward was uncovered in the slot and had all the time in the world to place that shot and rip it past Kincaid.

Don't think it will happen but I would like to see Clowe put with Elias and Havlat. Could make Havlat's transition a bit easier playing with another familiar player. 4th line could be Ruutu-Josefson/Gionta-Zubrus. Not sure Brunner is a fit in playing 4th line. |

Also Todd what was it you liked about kaberle ? I thought he was terrible personally but maybe the stats say otherwise ? I noticed every time he rushed the puck it got broken up at the rangers blue line with someone having to rush back to cover for him and felt most of those times it was his own team mate that he skated right into |

Todd Cordell: Henrique, Boucher Shine In Win Over Rangers - Todd.Cordell
I thought the Elias line looked good. The one issue I have with Elias is when he is paired with one of his buddies, like Sykora and now Havlat, he looks to force passes to them and tries to get too cute at times. Hopefully it's not a trend but it was noticeable last night.
I love what I saw from Ryder, not because I think he's poised for a big year, but hopefully a good preseason can make him easier to deal away to make room for Carter. |

At a certain point Ryder did score 18 goals last year, if he boosts his confidence and has an up year he could easily get 25 and we probably shouldn't be so quick to send 25 goals away to make room for Ryan Carter. |

When he's on and sniping its nice, but when he isn't he gets pretty useless.

Havlat survived the whole game. That's honestly the most important thing we can take from last night. 2nd most important is Boucher took a noticeable step forward, not staying the same/backwards. That's all that really matters here. |

I agree. I'd like to see what Clowe does in that spot over Zubrus. He may actually be slower than Zubrus, but has a little more offensive instinct. |

Please sign Komi, he will be a veteran calming presence on your blue line.
That Henrique line was dominant last night. Is that going to be a line that stays together for the season, or just because of the split squads? |

If Ryder doesn't have the puck on his stick, inside the circles, and a clear shooting lane...he's useless. The guy is the poster boy for the "pure shooter" stereotype. He's slow and awful defensively. Also invisible on given nights. |

I think the Devils have an interesting decision here. They already have 14 signed forwards and have Carter sitting, waiting, praying for a contract. Right now after seeing how awesome that line played, I'm satisfied if we move someone that Boucher be the next guy in rather than signing Carter (and I love what Carter brings to the team for the player he is).
Boucher on the 2nd line there, and God willing (as others had hoped here too) Clowe goes to 3rd line with Elias and Havlat while Zub is on the 4th with Ruutu and whoever is the 12th man at the time.
I think I could see a shot of Brunner going to somewhere like CGY, but if he doesn't, then just drop Bernier and have Gio and JJ as extras. I could be fine with that. We know we'll have injuries, but if it is just plugging in the best guy from the 4th line we'll be okay. |

That's pretty hopeful IMO. Ryder has always been streaky and brings nothing else to the table besides his shot. |

I get all of that and I'm not saying I'd be upset if we trade him, BUT considering we are still a team that I believe will struggle a bit to score goals could you not make the argument that a guy that very realistically could score 20-25 goals while possibly not doing much else is more valuable to us, considering who else we have on the roster, than a guy who'll score like 5-10 goals but play a more complete game? |

Not to mention the concept of having a bounce back year. How many of us were bemoaning re-signing Zidlicky last summer, only for him to have a pretty solid year last year. Just saying that a forward who scored 18 goals on what everyone considered a bad year might not be someone to so quickly dismiss on a team that struggles to score. The Devils are full of "complete" players who'll never sniff 20 goals, I don't believe in all cases you should sacrifice goals for the sake of complete play. |
